I just replaced my front brakes, and thinking that the clunk and thump I would go through when I braked previously would be gone, I was highly disappointed.
I thought that it was from a out of round rotor but nope. Still there, if I turn hard to the right I get a clunk on the drivers side, only when when going forward.
When driving I get a vibration in front drivers side and when I apply the brakes easy if bounces, push the brakes hard it goes away.
The calipers appeared fine and the hardware is all new, any ideas please!
Check your motor mounts on both sides. It's hard to see if the rubber has separated so put a 2X6 under the oil pan and jack up one side about 2 inches and check that mount then the other side. If one or bot are bad they are pretty easy to replace.
Check the radius arm bushings also if you have the TTB. If the bushing is shot it's a good source of clunk. If it is your engine mount get a good one from Ford. AutoZone mounts blow...
Also check your your ball joints and tierod ends for play. I just replaced ball joints on my truck and the clunk it did when you hit the brakes and light brake shudder disapeared.
Alright I got up under my truck today and noticed where the problem may be. I appears to be the drivers side tie rod (I think its a tie rod).
I grabbed a hold of it in the middle and shift back and forth and it has about 3" of play. The other side had no play? is this the probelm? Do I need new bushings or the whole tie rod?
Hi,
I would first find out what you are refering to, it seems that you are describing the "center link" The cener link is attached to the pitman arm of the steering box, and the inner tie rods.
The tie rod ends are to the outermost and attached to the wheel spindles.
There are right and left tie rod ends with left and right handed threads (also for whatever reason left and right handed prices)
These are replaced as individual units and be sure to have your front end re aligned, after replacing
Hi,
The tie rod ends come with the threaded end (left hand and right hand). If the post has play in the tie rod socket, the entire tie rod ends needs to be replaced.
Re: The wheel alignment, the wheels should be realigned, although when removing the tie rod end count the number of turns to get if off and then thread the same amount of turns to install. This will get you into the neighborhood
