The Pushrods would be one aspect. Ya never know if there's something deeper..BUT..as for the Pushrods..you'd loosen your rocker assembly..and pull the rods out Be sure to keep them in the right order in the right direction (which way was up or down). The Pushrods have a little hole through them that send oil up to help oil the rockers. Most the time..you can just blow through the holes..so I'd see if you can blow through them. If not..maybe soaking thenin some parts cleaner may break up the crud. Hope I helped some
Rocker shaft is probably plugged with sludge , there are small plugs at each end you can pull out (i put a self tapping screw in then pulled it out with vise grips) you will need new plugs be sure you can find them . I pushed a long 3/8 metal rod thru into a bucket you wouldn't believe the junk that came out . once the plug was out i ran solvent thru it till clear .
It would be a good time to see about a rebuilt pair of rocker arms and new push rods. Or the arms can be rebuhsed and new shafts purchased also. Hopefully the valve guides are still good. Kenny

Never in 40+ yrs have I ever saw a HOLE in a FE push rod since they get oil through rocker shafts through the #2 bolt that shares the support boss shaft stand . I'd say you got have the wrong engine in mind..
2X what Kenny says...orich

Beat me to it,
There may be a crack in the shaft somewhere but I think,
Kenny is spot on. Remove the rocker assembly, both if need be. Disassemble, and review. If not scored up. And I cannot imagine they are not. Cleaning them out with a gun brush and gas will do the trick. The shaft are that much but rockers will set you back a pretty penny. Ebay or a Pick&Pull are probably best bet for budget fix. If you only need a few rockers I have a stash here at least one assembly worth IIRC.
I bought the truck yesterday, and no, I've never changed the oil in it.
Actually, that's a lie, I changed it today (twice so far). Orich is dead on, push rods are solid, not hollow, and I poured some gas down the oil port under bolt #2 - worked like a champ! I'm a very happy guy.
Has a pretty loud tap - probably caused by the lack of oil? Sounds like it's coming from #1 or #2 (where it was so dry).
What kind of damage do you guys think I'm looking at? What do I need to address immediately, or can I drive this thing for a while before I do a complete tear down? (which I do plan on doing, but I need to get the interior back in my Comet first)
Pouring gas down the oil galley wasn't the best plan of action. You'll just flush crap backwards. Based on the thread with the radiator and now this. I would pull the engine. It is clear to be safe this engine needs to be gone through with a fine tooth comb.
However I now have no doubt what caused the radiator explosion.
Do a compression test will help you a good idea of over all cylinder condition. If engine got hot after your Rad went to hell you could have cracked a head.. If you find it need valve job and will needs harden valve seats look for 1972-76 D2TE heads around the loco junkyards these yrs had the harden V seats to run unleaded gas..Even cheaper to rebuild them if needed.. ...orich
