Mixed Ranger Fuel Pump replacement no Prime
Just replaced the Fuel Pump on my Ranger.
Now, my ranger is a 83 Ranger, with a 94 Motor in it.
The Fuel Pump that came out of the tank, was a 86-88 Ranger Pump
This pump is the exact match to what I removed from the tank, and fit in perfectly.
This is the video created for the Install of the Pump.
Now.
The truck has not been started in nearly 2 years.
I have also replaced the following
The truck would not turn over, so I replaced the Solenoid, I was able to turn the truck over once that was done, however, it would not crank, and I never heard the pump prime.
So, I then replaced the Fuel Relay and when I turned the ignition switch after this replacement, I heard a little click come from the Relay, of which I did not hear from the old one.
So.
My question is the following:
What else do I need to check to get this truck to prime the pump, so it will crank up?
We are getting ready to move, and I would really love to have this truck mobile, instead of towed to the new home,
I will have my 81 Firebird on a rowback, I just would like to actually drive this ranger if possible, if not, then it will be towed as well.
Thanks all
Wayne
I see your in NC, so if your in the western part of the state, up in the mountains where its cold & have condensation in the tank, it could have frozen & locked the pump up.
Two year old fuel sure isn't gonna want to make the engine start & run good, so try & remove the old fuel before running the engine.
If the problem is the fuel pump/s won't run, thats one thing, if they run & you have fuel pressure, but it won't at least try to start, with starter fluid or new fuel, thats another thing, so right now I'm not real clear on how many problems you have.
You did say in your other thread that it ran after all of the modifications that were made. It takes air, fuel, spark & compression to make em run, so whats going missing in your case????? If you can't hear either fuel pump run at KOEO, look to an electrical feed problem to the computer, or from it to the fuel pumps.
Nothing worked form that first thread.
OK, Where would the other Fuel Pump be at?
The only thing that I have seen under the truck is what looks to be the INline Fuel Filter.
As for the one in the tank, you assume correct, as stated in the main thread and shown on the video, it is replaced.
Now, were would I find the High Pressure pump at?

I never gave up, just forgot about the thread, as I stated in my previous post.
I am already planning on going under the truck tomorrow, to see if I can track it down.

Now, I will repeat once more, that I have a 1983 Ranger, with a 1994 Motor in it.
There for, not all things match up like they supposed to.
So, I am not seeing this pump no where, I have looked under the truck, and the only thing that I see if what looks like an inline filter canister.
When I following the fuel lines forward to the motor, there is nothing there, there is nothing, until the lines go where they need to go to the motor section.
Of which one of the lines goes here:
I went back and I read my previous thread, and I did everything that i was told to do, and I took pictures, and was unable to find anything.
So for the comment once more: You've given up too quick on that thread
If you look at the ending of the thread, you will see that I followed everything that was told, and never found the High Pressure Fuel Pump.
Just as I have not found it now.
So, I am going to see if I can maybe possibly find a fuse for the fuel pump.
I know that the 83 Ranger Fuse Panel, does not have one for the Fuel Pump, that I have checked over several times then, and the last few days, to make sure.
So I am going to go chase a ghost, and see if I can find something that will help me get this thing going.

Does your engine now have a carb, or throttle body fuel injection system, or when the later model engine was installed has it been upgraded to a port fuel injection system with a fuel rail & injectors for each cyl & cyl bank & was the computer also changed to operate it???? If so, then maybe it has the later design high pressure fuel pump in the gas tank, which replaced the 2 pump system models low pressure feed pump in the tank that supplied the frame rail mounted high pressure pump????
So right now I'm not clear what might also have been changed on your fuel delivery system & if changed what fuel & computer control system you now have.
The center picture looks like the fuel filter thats mounted on the drivers side frame rail.
Not sure what the bottom photo is a picture is of.
I am not really sure to be honest with you.
The Fuel Pump that I replaced is this one.
This is the writeup on it.

Wednesday I am going over to town, and will pick up a fuse that I "Think" might be missing. From looking at this image from here.

It seems to me, that I might be missing a Fuse.
As to be honest, I cannot quite remember what I did last summer when I started testing everything before actually removing the tank.
So, maybe the Fuel Fuse, which looks to be on the Right / Center (Top).
If any idea's, throw them my way, and I will see what I can run down.
Tomorrow, I have a full day, I am getting in a new Laptop, that I have to get ready for doing work on outside of the house. So that is going to take up nearly all my day tomorrow.
Thanks paw.
The only thing that I hear, when I turn the key, is the Click coming from the Fuel Relay that I replaced, other than that, I hear no noises what-so-ever.
I really wished that I did, I would be a happy person.
So that part of the wiring is working, at least.
I will have to get a Voltage Meter, as mine is shot.
(Oh how I miss having access to my Dad's garage, but wrong town, 150 miles in the opposite direction)
