I have a 2002 Explorer XLS with 7600 miles. Occasionally I hear a wind howling type noise coming from the engine or trans. Happens once or twice a day. Seems to happen when accelerating. Lasts two or three seconds, then leaves. Definitely not wind. Truck shifts OK. Everything else OK. Should I be concerned?
Mine does the same thing ('01 Sport). I only notice it when it's kinda hot outside or I have been sitting with the car running for a while. I think it's the fan running at a higher RPM to help cool the motor.
I feel like a total noobie, but I just converted over to the dark side (used to drive a honda with nitrous ). Where is the IAC? I'm pretty sure I understand what it does because it's kinda self descriptive, but I don't know where it is or how to clean it....
Ahhhh, Riceland. I miss those days. Been thinking of revisiting again. And I will.
Your IAC is on the plastic intake. If it's not a SOHC engine, it would be right above the d side head... 'bout 5" long, silver with 2 bolts holding it.
