when i open the radaitor cap, my coolent is not green. it's dark brown color, look rusty... but no oil inside tho, i want to flsuh it. it doesn't over heat or anything, but i'm picky. how many coolent would use as in qt?
If your coolant is brown, then there is something wrong in there. I had the brown water mix once. And when I found it it it was too late. My thermostat was rusted completely shut and the water pump bearings went out and the pump self destructed. Couple things I can reccomend to you. 1- Check and replace your thermostat. 2- Check your water pump and make sure its in good shape. 3- Completely flush the cooling system. 4- Check your radiator and make sure there isn't anything builing up inside it. Hope this helps you.
The thermostat is located where the upper hose and the block meet. It is inside the housing. Two or three bolts hold it on. Thermostats are cheap, and if you get one don't forget to get the gasket also.
well i'm going flush the whole system out tomorrow. so 50/50 coolent and water right? i heard you can't use tap water cause it got lead, or something. should i just get some bottle water n refill it?

Tap water is fine. I have used it for years. Definitly remove the radiator and get as much crud out as possible. While you are at it pull the hose of the water pump and check out the inside of it. Look for a couple of things, 1 rust, corrosion, and scale build up. And 2, Check the condition of the impeller vanes and make sure they aren't falling apart. As mkirkham said water pump and themostat can go anytime. Mine practically self destructed when the bearings went. I don't know how to check the bearings though. Just make sure they aren't making noise. Mine did before it went and I thought it was my belt tensoiner making that racket. I was wrong.

How about calicum? I would not use tap water where I am at since it is so high in mineral content. Buying a gallon or two of water at the grocery store for 50 cents is not a bad deal.
i agree with the bottled water suggestion. i just fixed a 96 dodge van that was overheating because the radiator was 90 % clogged with deposits from the guy filling it with tap water that was "hard". all that lime and calcium will clogg up your radiator.
