So i been having problems with my 96 f150 for a little while now. Not wanting to speed up when i floor it. well i took it to the trans shop to see if it might be a tranny problem. i took him for a ride and he told me that the trans is working the way it should. I can drive around town no problem as long as i dont punch it but as soon as i punch it the rpms go up with a lack of responce. He suggested that it might either be a fuel pump not providing enough fuel when wide open or maybe a timing issue or something along those lines with the engine. what do you think?
I got new plugs, wires, coil, new exhaust from headers - tail pipe, 2 new o2 sensors, and just installed a cold air intake last night.
Sounds like the trans is slipping, if the motor revs up there probably isn't a fuel delivery problem. Pull the codes to see if there is anything trans related.
I am having a similar problem. Have you checked for codes? I was told to test tps. Mine tested out okay. I was wondering about o2 sensor, but you already changed yours. You can find my thread and read the advice I have gotten.
I will let you know if I figure anything out with mine. Please keep us apdated. Have you tried starting in 1st and seeing if it will shift manually? I will probably try that this evening.
i have no problem driving the truck. I can drive it around town all day with no problems. Its just when i am trying to get real acceleration to get on the high way is where i am having the problems.
I understand. Mine is doing the exact same thing. Drives totally normally. Only at wot it will down shift, accelerate up to shift point and then bogg down. Someone suggested that I try shifting manually from a dead stop while punching it to see if it will shift. if it does then the problem is definitely in the tranny.
I am hoping we discover that the solution is something simple. I just bought my in-laws 96 F250 and am trying to sell my 94 F150. Potential buyer discovered problem on test drive. I didn't even realize it eas there. Dont really want to spend a lot of money to fix something I am selling.
What tranny do you have?
My truck has 5.8 with 119k miles, e4od and is 4x4.
