e4od controller question (IDI)

Hi, I'm trying to update my '86 f350 2wd/6.9L/C6 to e4od. On much good advice in these forums I've got my hands on (and rebuilt) a 1990 e350 2wd/7.3L and thought I had the controller but turns out I've got the brake module instead, and the donor truck is now gone (rebuild took a long time).

I gather there is a difference between 2wd and 4wd on the controller.

My real question is what concerns may I find if I use a different year control box? One comment I saw indicated the later the better for these, but is there a difference from an interchange standpoint?

Trying hard to avoid buying an aftermarket controller if I can do this with factory parts... I think I still need to figure something out for the column sensor too - maybe?

Thanks,
- Jeff

You gather wrong. Same controller. The 4x4 has a wire that tells the controller when it is in 4x4L. As long as that circuit isn't grounded it works the same.

Any year 1988-1994 will work, the later ones will work better.

Column sensor? I don't know of any column sensor. What would it do?

Thanks, Mark - that's encouraging!

By column sensor I mean the MLPS, presuming my neutral safety switch isn't going to give enough info to the controller.

I am also hoping upon hopes that the color codes don't change much through the years, the underside harness I have is from the '90 donor.

Best,
- Jeff

The MLPS is on the transmission, not the column. The sensor was the same from '88-94 as I remember it. But on the other hand, that was a long, long time ago.

That, sir, is *awesome* news.

Thanks again,
