I am envious of anyone who has a good parts place or dealer nearby. (I miss living in maryland they had some helpful people there). I called a few auto parts stores they said they didnt have a cap pressure tester and so i went to my for dealer just to by a cap. I asked the person there if they could pressure test my old cap and they looked at me funny and said it is not possible to pressure test any cap......for now i am going to put the new cap on and see what happens. Hopefully tonight i will rig up a pressure tester to splice into my cooling line to see what happens. Does anyone know of plans to make these or where i can get the appropriot gauge? i am sure i can figure it out but if someone has done this before some direction would be great.

I know the factory gauge (or anything that goes off the OBD-2 port) is not accurate when you are tuned. Its something to do with the tuner having to "trick" the computer. So whatever the one says that is tapped into your manifold is correct.

I also would like to mention I when I stopped after it spilled its coolant everywhere the level in the resivior was very high. This morning when i looked at the coolant level it was 1/4 inch over the low line.

Have you checked your degas cap. I've heard that the stock ones seldom work. I had my cap checked at the parts store and it wouldn't hold pressure.

Defective cap won't make the coolant level high. Air in the system, HG's, can.

Well the coolant level has always been about 1/4 inch over the low line when cold.

Altruego-I did not test the cap but I did replace it. I had a ford dealer tell me it is impossible to test the caps and 3 parts stores tell me that no parts stores loan that type of thing.....man do I ever need to find a good parts store. Even my deere dealer sucks. I go in to order parts they say they can get them, then I go to deere website and order the part to that dealer and laugh cause its the part they said the couldn't get. I wish ford sold parts like deere or massey.....lol but that's a different story.

So when I got home I changed the cap and really looked at everything, unfortunately it was getting dark and starting to rain/snow. What I did notice is that it does not seem that the top of the degas bottle was covered with much crud like I have seen in photos floating around of people with coolant puking. Is there any other place it could have puked from?

It kinda confuses me that the truck would have a bad HG all of my numbers are still good and I have not lost any power. In fact the only sign that my truck has of a bad HG is that it puked once...maybe twice. No smoke, no teapot sound, no coolant contamination...idk I am stressed about it the whole thing

Well I have yet to test anything yet but so far the new ford cap has not burped any coolant. I really need to test my old cap and build a my own version of the hero kit to test my HG. Also, I took my truck off the srl tune and put it on the 8k tow tune. Hopefully this weekend I can find a gauge to make my own hero kit.

The Lisle LIS20300 pressure/vacuum gauge will work (I believe it only goes to 14 or 15 psig though). O'Reilley's sells it.

Also - OTC 5613 Vacuum / Pressure Gauge Kit (0-15 psig)

Mityvac sells a 0-30 psig gauge and also does vacuum. It would be ideal: MVA6181
Mityvac
Mityvac MVA6181 MVA6181 - Compound Vacuum/Pressure Gauge

Lastly: KD Tools (0-15 psig) Model# KDS2521 and Actron CP7802 (0-15 psig)

I am still yet to test the head gasket, but have not had any problems with burping since. I have been running the truck on the 8k tow tune, and the other day hauled my trailer with a tractor which totaled 8 k with no burping.

I have noticed a howling noise, it seems like it comes from the turbo or maybe a intercooler pipe. It only makes the howl at low boost 5 to 10 psi and when there is little or no load on the motor. I took this video of it. The sound is not great, but this is not the tea kettle sound people hear is it?

A few things... you can make a pressure guage really easy just get any psi guage with a pipe thread on it I used a round tire pressure guage and took the vavle stem part off. Next get that guage to T into the small hose at the top of the degas bottle then drive around town till upto operating temp I left my set up under the hood then checked it when I pulled over. The cap is set to vent at 15psi and normal pressure is around 10psi so if the guage goes to 15 psi then you have an issue with either the heads or egr cooler. Now for your tea whistle... it sounds like your cap expelling pressure but could also be a hole/crack in a up pipe before the turbo or if your pipes are not sealed against the turbo but if your building good psi then I'm leaning towards the cap. Your over boost may be from some sticky vanes in the turbo 28 is a pretty normal number mine hits 30 but will calm down to 28 after a second. So in my opinion I'm thinking a head gasket. I'd try the pressure test that will give a good direction. To determine if its a head gasket or egr there's another test from there. Keep us posted.

what really bums me out is I recently deleted the egr system and rebuild the oil cooler. I should have just done the studs and new gasket while i was there, but the old saying if its not broke dont fix it came to mind. If it is the HG i cant decide if i want to do it myself or have it done somewhere...
My 350 with the zf6 hit 30-32psi stock also. Thirty five psi loaded lifted both heads.
