96 302 Plug & Wire Change

In process of changing out the plugs & wires for the first time on my 96 F150 4x4. We are at 92,000 miles. All went ok until I got to numbers 1&2. These are the back two cylinders on the starboard (right) side. Is there some trick to this? I have not been able to get the wires off these two plugs, tho the will turn a little. Some of the others were a little difficult, but eventually popped off. Would really appreciate any clues, as I'm worried I'm doing something wrong. It seems so simple....

Cool 96 302 Plug & Wire Change

I have changed them 3 times already.
I think I used an extension, and a swivel to get them out.
Good luck.

I take it you mean you can't get the plug wires off the plugs. If you are planning to install new plug wires, just take a pair of pliers and pull the plug wire boot off the plug. It will ruin the wire, but they're garbage anyway, right?
When you install your new wires, put some dielectric grease inside the boot on the plug end. That should keep them from sticking to the plug and make them easier to remove NEXT time. Hope this helps.

Just for your info, if back means firewall, then those are not cylinders 1 and 2. They are 3 and 4. 1 and 2 are the front passenger side. The drivers side from front to back is 5,6,7,8.

96 302 Plug & Wire Change

I just purchased a used 92 f-150 with a 5.0 and had the same problems. I pulled the right front tire off, and reached in through the fender well. Still not too easy, but it did work without destroying the wires. I also put some dielectric grease on with the new plugs, and the second time I had to remove them, (to put in plugs with the right gap, doh!) they came off much easier.

I have been reading these forums since I got my new truck, about two months ago, and have found alot of useful information here. Thanks to all.

Eric.
