I need to repalce the shift indicator on my 1981 F-150.Does anyone know the how to's?The cabel has broke, and I found a indicator assy. on E-Bay.Just need instructions on how to replace it.Thanks All
There's a black plastic cover that has to come off of the steering column. It is held on with one screw on the bottom, but once that's out you'll have to spread it open somewhat to get it off. It feels like it will break, but I've not broken one yet.
Once off you'll see a wire in a tube from the indicator around the column to a pin on the lever. The tube is held on with a screw with an arched washer. That must come off and the new one put back in its place. But, the tube is sure to be brittle so go gently with the new one. I've had them work fine even with a broken tube, but still use caution.
