Hello,

I just bought a 2009 f250 4x4 auto 5.4 gas crew cab truck. it has 90,000 highway miles on it.

The fuel mileage SUCKS!! it gets around 13 on highway empty(hauling nothing) and around 9 city.

I have a 2000 f250 with a 5.4 gas. same setup and it gets around 18 highway and around 15 city.


What is up with my 2009? I dont mind to do some mods(truck is bone stock), but Iam not into racing and loud trucks. I need a work truck, not a show truck.

Ive just recently bought an 08 thats about the same. I read a few or all of these could help but I have heard NO one actually back it up to say it improved milage enough to make a difference or not. Heres what I have read so far:

Cold air intake or hi flow air filter at least.

Platinum or Iridium spark plugs (all though I believe these engines are finiky on spark plugs...I could be wrong)

Higher output exhaust..such as wider exhaust pipe and better "free flower" muffler.
I really wish I knew the ansew to this....I need to find out as well.

 

I can't get 18/15 with either of my half ton 5.4L's let alone a CC SD 4wd with an E4OD. 13/9 sounds just about right for a truck that big. I am sure the '09 is heavier, tire size and gears make a difference. There is no mod or combo there of that I can think of that is going to give you 5mpg
