+1 on Shaun @AED.

I'm using him on tunes for my Boss. His reputation is excellent.

Andy: I just noticed your signature. You have a tune from Shaun on your Boss?

Way back when PCV valves were first implemented, the engines actually got a little more gas mileage due to burning those fumes formerly vented to the air. Besides, those fumes are pure smog, so what's bad for our air is actually pretty good for the engine. There is nothing corrosive in those fumes to harm the engine, so nothing good can come of blocking the PCV at the manifold. The PCV valve is actually a "smog device", to use an old term, that actually does some good. Don't disable it! You'll gain nothing in power, and lose mileage.
Just to be clear I am not actually blocking the blow by from escaping, that is filtered to the air.

The oil vapors degrade combustion. I have modified the PCV systems on 2 of my vehicles and this has improved the combustion. Both cars intakes were filled with crud from the PCV system and once modified they stayed clean.

Thanks for the advice on AED

Not yet, but I know several people who do. Mine will get tuned eventually. I've never wanted a warranty to expire so bad in all my life!

A lot of the Mustang guys are putting CCV (Crank Case Vent) catch cans on their cars. I have one on the shelf ready to go in before my next track day. The concern is oil vapors burning onto the hot intake valves. I don't agree with the comment that the fumes are better for mileage, etc. The reason the crank case is venting is you have blow by from the combustion (already burned fuel) and the natural pressure caused by the rotation of the crank shaft which is a combination of plain air and oil vapors. It's not like it's some nice mixture of air and gasoline. On my 7.3 I run the CCV straight to the exhaust, but have to put it back into the intake when I have to smog it. It makes all the intake/intercooler boots sweat oil and attract dirt.

I agree. Venting the crank case vapors and oil is not good for gas engines.

Having CCV system on a diesel before the low sulfer fuel and during the low sulfer fuel era are totaly different stories. It is better to have the CCV system in 100% stock working condition with the new low sulfer fuel. But this is not a diesel forum....
