Lots of info here, just need to read up on it. This forum moves pretty slow, so no need to keep posting over and over, someone will answer in due time.
If this is your first project, I would install a dana44 ttb that originally came in these trucks. It's a bolt in. You could rebuild it and bolt it in over a weekend, and still drive it around with the 2wd tranny till you got time to swap the tranny and transfer case out and install the front driveshaft to complete the 4x4 conversion.
Most people don't need a straight axle, the ttb axles work fine for most people and give a better ride.
If your f100 has the small car bolt pattern wheels, then you should get a rearend also to go with the frontend, so the wheels match and the gear ratios match. When you think about it, a donor f150 4x4 would make more sense and probably be cheaper, especially if you got one with a blown engine or rusty body.
Depending on the brakes and wheel bolt pattern, I see a lot of heartache trying to convert a F-100 to 4x4, unless it has the F-150 brakes 11" and F-150 bolt pattern.
