Just bought a 2003 Excursion 6.0L. I have had it for less than 2000 miles so far and have thus only filled the tank from near empty twice. My concern is that both times I have put over 41 gallons in the tank and the gauge was reading about 1/8th of a tank left. At what point is the fuel light supposed to come on? Is it possible that the previous owner could have had a larger tank installed? Any tell tail signs of that? I may have to start filling up at 1/4 tank instead of waiting for <80 miles till empty on the overhead meter.
As an FYI, for the two tanks I have hand calculated my MPG and the meter above is about 0.3 MPG lower than hand calculated. My mileage so far is 19.3 hwy and 15.5 mixed driving. Can't complain for a truck of this size.
i have the opposite issue, my light comes on, miles to empty hit 0 and gauge drops to E when i have 8-9 gallons left!!! i put a new pump/sending unit in with no change.
i heard there is a way to recalibrate it but never heard exactly how.
