Question 2004 E-250 van question

Hi all, I know this forum is mostly about Ford trucks but i have a question about my van. I have a 2004 E-250 super duty Econoline van. I am just wondering if anyone can tell me if i can take the front end running gear out of the same year F250 and turn my van into 4x4? Is there a lot of modification that needs to be done? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My van only has 90,000 miles on it and it is paid off. And i am handicapped and in a wheelchair and having 4x4 would really help me. I know Quigley does 4x4 vans but they told me they only convert new vans. I looked on the web and have been unable to find any info on converting my van. Thank you again for any info.

There is a van forum if you look down further in the list of forums, and at least a few guys there who have done 4x4 vans. I'm guessing one of the moderators will move your post there.

That said, it is a very expensive and complicated procedure to build a 4x4 van, and the van would end up sitting much higher, which could present its own set of difficulties.

I have long had full size vans in Michigan and my approach is good tires in the winter along with a good limited slip rear axle. I should knock on wood, but I have never stuck one of my vans... For way less than the cost of 4x4, you could get a second set of dedicated winter wheels and tires and a limited slip differential and really make it thru most anything.

Good luck,
George

Ujoint Offroad has done plenty of E450s. They sell the stuff you need to do it yourself.

The only really special parts are the front and rear sprint hangers for the leafspring conversion up front. If you are resourceful and have access to lots and lots of parts, tools, and time you can get away with just getting these hangers for around 700 bucks

Expect to spend around 4000 in specialty parts to do it, for a fairly minimal build and if you get the axles and trans for free.

Complete labor and parts for the whole activity will probably run 10-14k depending on the shop. I did mine myself and spent around 6k on the 4wd conversion side of it. I bought a wrecked F350 for parts, and sold the engine from the truck and old trans from the van.
