I have a 2006 F150 5.4l 4x4. When the engine is running and even when at normal operating temps., my trans dipstick in below the last bar showing a drip of fluid...however as soon as turn the motor off, the reading is normal?? Is this how it's suppose to work?

Sorry , but no . Read your manual . Check fluid with engine running , trans in park . Cold mark , hot mark . If just touching while running , you are low . When the engine is off the pump stops , fluid drains into the pan . When running , pump is working and circulating fluid . Running is when you need to check it . Use the proper fluid for your trans .
I believe that the right way to check it is to warm up the transmission fluid. It takes a few miles to heat up. so Drive it around town 10-15 miles.. Then with the truck running you check the fluid. On a cold day it can take a while of driving to warm up. So go for a long drive and check it with the truck running..
