Gonna do a hutch mod and tank/line cleans out before i run my truck with the new injectors. Anybody got any tips on what to or not to do when doing this. Better to buy a kit or build my own? Pre-pump filters?
Just depends on the type of person you are and the time/money problem. I personally just did it myself cause I had plenty of time to acquire the parts. If I had to do it in a hurry I would buy the kit. Here is a great link in case you need it.
I have accumulated the parts to do the mod. It has cost me approximately $85 to accumulate everything. But, I am adding valves before and after the prepump filter and went with stainless steel line and compression fittings.
Did mine for about 55$ with a "technocar" spin on off ebay.
I experimented with copper tubing instead of stainless or aluminum.
Going to pull it again soon and actually do the z bend return line.
I initially just stuck the u shaped rubber tubing in that spot... but it throws my fuel gauge off making it read slightly higher than koeo.
Besides copper being prone to cracking, isn't there a corrosive reaction with diesel?
That is exactly why it was experimental. I will take pictures of what i find when i pull it apart again. Might go ahead and do it when we are doing twg1966's hutch mod.
I am game. It isn't that big of a deal to take it down based upon what you have told me. But I have about 3/4 of a tank this weekend. Next weekend is a stock show, therefore, it might be the following weekend.

Whenever your ready brother. So far the copper line hasnt given me any issues so im in no big hurry... my main concern is the return throwing my fuel gauge off.
Extra props to twg1966 for finding the ONLY place in the Victoria area who carries ss tubing.
Oh yeah Chris, I also found my tubing bender springs. You will like these little jewels. How long do you think it will take to drop install and put back together from time I arrive to time we crank her back up? Just curious.

Copper reacting with diesel forms an oxidation catalyst which reacts to form some nasty compounds in the fuel (particularly if you get any water into the system). The oxidation catalyst will speed up the process of metal corrosion upstream from your tank. I would seriously consider Chris making the change sooner, rather than later.
