I have an 05 Excursion 6.0l, the truck currently has fuel injection issues that I am aware of. Started the truck in the morning and let it run for about 5 minutes as I normally do with the bad injectors to get them warmed up. I drove about 100 yards and came to a stop when all of a sudden the truck shut off as if I turned the key off. I immediately tried to restart it and it acted as if the battery was dead. The Alternator is 1 yr. old and I had no indication of it failing again. I tried to jump it but it still wouldn't start with symptoms of a dead battery. I called a flat bed and took it back home where the truck driver tried to jump it with his cables on one battery and a jumper box on the other. Again nothing, like they were dead. I tested the batteries with a volt meter and they were both at 12.4. I replaced the Main battery on the passenger side of the engine and still acts dead.
I've asked a few people and I have heard from the high pressure oil pump might have gone out, the cam sensor may have gone out, The FICM is bad to the EGR valve failed and forced water into the motor and now I have to have head gasket work done. I checked the dip stick and there is no visible water there or milky oil. I'm not a mechanic so I don't have the tools to test anything like compression etc. Both batteries are disconnected so I think if there were codes they aren't there anymore. Will they come back after reconnecting batteries and trying to start it again?
When the truck shut of there was no smoke before or after and no clunk sound.
As a side note I am running Shell Rotella 10/40 oil with Hot Shot Secret to attempt to clean out the Stiction in the bad injectors. Recommended By http://http://www.hotshotsecret.com/ It hasn't cleaned them up completely but did make the truck run a little better.
Your FICM has taken some abuse w/ a replaced alternator and bad batteries.
The Tech folder has a procedure on checking the FICM volts with a DVOM, but IMO it is well worth the $150 to buy a scangaugeII and read the FICM volts with it from the truck's OBDII (computer) port.
Unfortunately most scantools are not all that great at reading the trouble codes. The scangaugeII is not very good at it. What the scangaugeII can do is read the important engine parameters and we can help you troubleshoot from that information.
The Edge CTS is an electronic gauge system and is somewhat better at reading codes, but it is more expensive.
An AutoEnginuity is the best for reading codes and toubleshooting the engine problems, but it is even more expensive and it is not very convenient to use as a gauge system (you need a laptop to go with the AE software).
Can you describe in more detail about the starting like it has dead batteries? Do you hear the starter engage but its like the starter stops dead? Or do you just hear a click like it doesn't have enough juice? Or will the motor turn over but wont start? Im wondering if it isn't hydrolocked. For what its worth its a terrible idea to be running the engine with bad injectors as you can have one hang open and hydrolock the engine which can cause base engine damage. Also driving with a failed EGR cooler can result in the same. And one last question, is the Rotella 10W40 a CJ-4 rated diesel engine oil?

X2,, questions I was thinking as I was reading this.
I vote for hydrolock as well...O ring on injector..... Filled cylinder full of full which is why getting glow plug code....Why do I know this....Mine just did it about 2 months ago....My opinion.....
