Hi, sorry i'm a newbie so i might seem a little slow ...
I've got a '99 ford explorer 4 door and the rear wiper was broken off by someone when i parked in a bad area for an event awhile ago....
i reinstalled a whole new arm on my truck but it's not working...(meaning it's not moving at all, although i can hear some kind of response when i turn on the wiper switch).
The wiper was kind of sticky before it was broken off...the dealer has told me that it was the motor problem and will cost more than 500 bucks to replace!!
does anyone have any suggestions for me to get that wiper working again?
Hi, there are a lot of things that can go wrong with the wiper. What has probably happened is that the shaft from the motor was bent when they broke the arm off. This would jam the motor and you would hear it try to move as the motor loaded up but still see no movement. Forget going to the dealer for a part such as this. Instead go to a scrap yard and get a used one from there. They may have stripped an Ex and have it handy or you may have to rip it out yourself but either way you should have a working motor for under $20 or so. You could also look for any other parts, trim, etc. that you want/need at the same time.
I know there was a thread posted awhile back regarding rear wiper problems, I believe the problem was a poor ground as well. since you had the arm broken arm and you are planning on replacing it make sure the motor is properly grounded as well.
Grounded means that there is a wire or the motor itself secured properly to the vehicle this allows the component to work properly. Hope this helps ya understand.
i had a similar problem the motor made a clicking sound, and that was it. i replaced the motor at autozone for lke 60 or 70$ and it took me less than an hour simply remove the liftgate panel and the rest is gravy.
