Engine Swap

Will the 1987 302 from a Mustang fit in a 1987 Bronco which has a C6 tranny?

What engine was bolted to the C6?

IF a 351W, it will bolt up, but the torque converter would be a question mark along with the flex plate and starter.

Engine management will have to be worked out too. Both motors EFI?

The 87 Mustang motor should be EFI and the Bronco 302 got EFI by 86 so should be a straight swap. Of course the exhaust manifolds and intakes will be different but the core long block is the same except for maybe a different cam.

Unless this Bronco had some previous swaps performed everything should bolt up fine. The Broncos never had a big block from teh factory in this generation and Ford never put a C6 behind a 300 IIRC so it must be a 302/531 bellhousing.

Also theres nothing stopping you from carbing the motopr as well if you find the EFI swap not possible.

They did offer 300/C6 combos, that or there are many swapped ones.

300/302/351W all use the same bellhousing pattern. Flywheel/flexplate is different though.

300 is internally balanced, and the rest are externally balanced, so the flywheel for a V8 will have a counterweight, the I6 flywheel won't.

engine swap

Thanks for all the reply's. I have learned the Mustang may have a different cam and firing order? Will the Bronco EEC need to be changed? I have just replaced the computer, will I need a different EEC? Thanks again

The EFI system in the bronco doesn't care about firing order so just make sure to route the plug wires for the 351/HO firing order, and if you want to make this swap completely painless put the truck intake on the HO before dropping it in. You have to swap the oilpan and pickup, timing cover and water pump, and flywheel or flexplate too.

There were lots of 300s offered with C6s. It's extremely robust, but very sluggish combo.
