Nice crew cab you got to start working on did it come with only what's pictured or do you have the whole interior, doors and bed? I just picked up a 66 crew cab acouple weeks ago. Where are you from? Mind me asking what you paid for the crew? Not sure how much you know about these trucks but ford never kept track of how many crews were made all crewcabs were made by conversion companies crown is one of them. and nothing on the vin will tell you that it's a crew cab get your vin decoded and it will just what truck it is f100 250 350 ect. what are your plans for it?

Your crew looks good! looks just like mine! I payed $2000 for the truck but that came with front clip, all doors, hood, "Short Short Bed" tailgate, Both bench seat (one with original seat cover!) and lots more small parts, plus another front clip off a 63 for the heck of it! Were from Northern California and this will be our first crew cab! our first step is to take the cab off and put it on a 66 Ttwin I-beam frame. PO owner did some crazy things on the frame its currently sitting on...I think Were going to put in a 390 and just drive it and enjoy it! we have done that with several slicks and we thoroughly enoy it!! Plus well find a doner and do P/S, P/b! Makes all the difference

Sounds like a great build plan for it. I got pretty much everything with my crew to besides a drivers door and tailgate. What frame is the crew on currently? What do you mean by extra short short bed? If you look at mine my bed is extra short PO cut it down to fit on the frame its on a 78 2wd single cab long bed frame. I plan on putting a 460 and zf5 speed trans in it I have sitting here that was going to be put in my 71 crew but I went with a cummins instead. Are your rear door hinges exposed to the outside of the truck or can't you see them unless you open the door?

You cant go wrong with a cummins motor! Are 93 dodge ranch truck has 400,000 plus miles with a broke odometer!! I believe its still the original 65 frame, but PO put a new subframe in to fit a bigger engine and extended the rear frame to put a long bed on. Ill have to take a picture and get a measurement but its shorter then a short bed! I guess that was just part of the conversion to get it all to fit on 65 longbed frame..Im not sure about the hinges Ill have to look, I belive the hinges are attached to the dooor and then they thread into the B pillar for the rears.

Here's some info on the old crews. Yea cummins is where it's at. I wasn't to sure on the extra short bed but now its growing on me. Hoping to pick up some better doors soon. Your lucky your in Cali with the weather here I don't get much done over the winter don't have a garage to work in.

Mid year 1965, Ford began assembling their own Crew Cabs, but like the aftermarket Crews, were converted from Regular Cabs, ditto the Bumpsides.

1973 was the first year that FoMoCo actually made 'true' Crew Cabs from 'scratch.'

Early 1965's were made by Crown Coach, have exposed rear door hinges, different shaped rear door window frames than the Ford 'conversions.'

Even though Ford offered their own Crews beginning mid-year 1965, aftermarket bodymakers continued to do conversions and still do today.

There are no specific Crew Cab parts listed in Ford Truck Parts Catalogs until 1973. AFAIK, all mid 1965's, 1966/79 Crews were assembled at the Oakville Ontario Canada Truck Assembly Plant.

1961/1980: The 5th digit of the VIN is the assembly plant code: C = Oakville.

Yea I agree interesting to learn more about these older trucks as much as I have learned I forget half of it. I'd be interested in the doors and tailgate but shipping would be a killer. PM a price and see if we can work something out. I'm suppose to go check out 2 parts trucks within the next week or so depending on if we get this snow storm not sure if the doors are even any good or not until I go look.

72 = Dealer ordered the Vehicle from the Ford District Sales Office in San Jose, CA.
Thats kind of strange that it would have had a DSO of 72. Ford had an assembly plant in San Jose, CA, designated in the VIN by (R). If it had a DSO of more than two digits it would have been a special order, but it doesn't, hmmm.

Crazed 87 bronco, I will see if I can get some pics and prices for you this weekend. I like to ship with greyhound as they always have the cheapest prices by a ton!

Thankyou Rob for the vin decode! That is wierd that they would have ordered the truck out of michigan! Maybe San jose plant was slow on production....

They also could have been producing another series of truck at the time. Double check the fifth digit of the VIN and the DSO.
