I know everyone is gonna say "ididit" or "Flaming river" column, but I don't have 500-800 dinero for steering column. Has anyone had any luck with an ebay $200 one like this? Seems like it has everything as in: GM wiring harness, chrome, bla bla bla...1" DD My new mustang II power rack is 3/4-36 output shaft. Is that 36 spline? so if I get this column, I'm gonna need a 1"DD to 3/4 U joint?
thx everyone
Speedway prices can usually be beaten, but I haven't shopped. And I suspect you probably think I am whizzin in your lemonade, but I have just not heard good things about the ebay columns. I like to save money too, but they are just too cheap. A used 70s GM or Ford column is a better idea, even if you throw a 100 bucks in internal plastc parts at it. If you do that get a popular one you can get internals for.
Summit Racing has an ididit column, floor shift with tilt in plain steel for $369. Has 1" double D shaft. I'm replacing my column as well and pricing them. Another FTE member got one like the one you posted and said the chrome was plastic, China junk to sum it up. You get what you pay for.
You might call Summit and perhaps they will tell you who manufacturered it.. I have purchased many Summit branded parts and they were always decent, and sometimes excellent. They don't build anything, but they usually contract a major player in the industry. That could possibly be an IDIDIT column. At worst, you risk shipping because Summit will accept returns without any hassle.
I believe the one i got for a street rod was this one only shorter , 30" . It is all metal and has a good finish, but the ignition switch did quit working. I have a new G.M replacement to put in it when i get around to doing it. The switch was cheap looking so it's probably china made. I can hear a something rubbing inside when i turn so the bearings probably going out. Signals don't cancel out right , but i may not have it adjusted right. Tilt works real good and a G.M wheel from the 80s era work good ,or custom . I'v only driven it about 300 miles with that column, so ,you get what you pay for, sometimes.
I was lookin' to get a column shifter, but the floor shifter's look a lil cheaper....

Hey Jason,
We initially ordered a 30 inch knock off column from Gearhead enterprises On-line - I think it was $250 or so. We attempted to install that one but it just didn't work - the internals were plastic & the "chrome" column was actually plastic chrome plated. We just chunked it & bought a more reputable brand actually made out of metal.
I would just ask a lot of questions of the suppliers to get a feel for
them so you don't get surprised. The ad you posted said 32 inch in the title but 33 inch in the body of the ad - odd. I'm sure you've checked a million times but we went with a 30 inch column after a lot of measuring.
I'm not familiar with the '55's - have you double checked that you need the longer column?
Yeah that ad is weird. I don't think I'm gonna get one of those cheap columns. Do I measure from the floor of the truck or down through the firewall for the length of my column? Cuz I know the column sticks through a little bit
Early 90's square body Jeep Cherokee. 30" long, GM column with cruise, tilt, wipers and high beams on the column. Cheap and plentiful in the junkyard. Cut the mounting flange off the bottom and see the cheap lower mount I made from a muffler clamp. Check Bobby's upper column mount, simple and cheap. The mount, not Bobby.

You need to be mindful of where the column shift lever is located on whatever column you choose, then allow clearance from firewall for it to function if you are using a traditional linkage-rod shift.
