Question Steering Stabilizer questions

So I started to do some research after the conversation on my last posted question on steering stabilizers. But now I have a questions...

Does my truck have quad suspension... how can I find out? what is a quad suspension?

You knowledgeable folk could probably tell by looking at my pictures. if you could please tell me.

Your truck has four shocks on the front axle, so your truck has quad shocks.

Gary just went through this choice last week. He went with sensa-trac. Said it would ride real nice. Especially with dual fronts. You dont want something too stiff.

Yes, I did go with Sensa-Tracs for shocks. But isn't this thread about steering stabilizers, meaning essentially a shock hooked to the steering linkage? I don't have a steering stabilizer and haven't seen the need for one the way I use the truck. It is my understanding that they are good for off-roading where you might hit a rock with one tire and don't want that to jerk the steering wheel. But I don't take the truck off the road so don't really have a need for one.

jaysdaddy,

thanks for the link but like Gary said that's for shocks which i still need to change so good link.

but i still need to decide for my stabilizer. i saw pictures of installed sensa-tracs stabilizers and they don't convince me.

That's exactly what they are for.
Though people often use them, or replace them, when they've either, screwed up their steering geometry with a lift, are running tires that won't track right, or haven't maintained their steering components and things are worn/loose. In other words, to hide other problems.

O.P.'s truck is lifted, so I bet his geometry sucks.

Most lift kits keep the geometry correct if you buy all the recommended parts. And their alignment will come back in also if the correct balljoint bushings are used.

Some people swear by steering stabilizers, but I have never seen the need for one, even off road, and I still think they are mostly for looks. Look at all the colorful boots and how they come painted up in bright colors.

They aren't always needed off-road, but I have seen the difference between having one and not having one.

IIRC, someone mentioned in his other thread that the pitman arm didn't have enough drop for his specific lift. I didn't look closely to see if that really is the case, but it's possible.

Fordzilla you are officially subscribed to and friend-ed. Thanks for following my posts.

Yes my truck is lifted and he is wearing BFGs 35's. That and the steering looks worn.( i haven't had my first drive with him yet) that is why i feel that it may be necessary to have just a little extra insurance.

I will need to take pics and video. From the front the tires look like they lean in and the left tires is stubborn in turning.

So we will see what it is once we get there.

If you have steering geometry issues you should fix them rather than masking them with a stabilizer.
Installing a stabilizer to hide other issues is like installing a super firm shock because springs are shot. Only worse because you're hiding steering issues which can have much more devastating results when they do show up again. Which they will.
