A couple weeks ago I sent off my FICM to Ed @ FICMRepair.com just to have it checked out and also to have him add a 40 Atlas program to it. Fortunately the FICM checked out good and he quickly flashed it and sent it back. Awesome.
So after a couple weeks of driving I have to say that I can't feel any difference in power at all. I am also not seeing any change in economy.
I do have to admit that I am suffering from an intermittent stiction problem on my #3 injector but most of the time it is fine when running at operating temperature.
I was just wondering if I was excepting too much from the Atlas 40 or if maybe I have some other issue that masks any gain from that flash, or if I'm missing something else here. Anyone running this program on their FICM?
I didn't see much in the way of improved fuel economy but I have noticed much better throttle response. But I am also running the SCT tuner with a tow tune installed ( the canned SCT tune ). Before the Atlas 40 if I got on it from a stand still it would almost fall on its face then suddenly come alive, but after the tune it doesn't do that. I don't know if I have much more in the way of power but the improved throttle response is worth it.
I'm in the same boat as mustang, I can tell something is different because the truck behaves differently (ie tip in throttle response), but I'm didn't see it come out in the MPG numbers like a lot of people claim. I'm at the point where I consider it a nice upgrade if you're getting your FICM worked on, but not worth a few hundred bucks on it's own.
I got it a while back and I really think I wasted the money. The repair that Ed did was fantastic, but I could have done without the Atlas 40. If I weren't too lazy, I'd see what it takes to get back to the stock tune. I suppose that next time I'm taking stuff off the engine, I'll send the FICM somewhere to get it back to stock.
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the tune. I just drive like little ol' grandma out for a Sunday drive so the sluggish throttle response never bothered me. It also seems to me that the truck shifts a little sooner than it used to. It could be that I picked the wrong week to quit sniffin' glue but along with the early shifts, it is also quicker to downshift on the highway.
I suppose since I've been driving that truck for 8 years, I know exactly what to expect and when to expect it. It's like my wife got a boob job. Same chassis but the improved throttle response means I may have to watch the last spot during the commercial break. Don't know which is better. You be the judge.
I had the Atlas 40 put on when I got my FICM repaired. Now, my FICM was reading low at first start of the day. Then the rest of the day would read fine.
My fuel mileage did increase, hand calculated, 1.5 to 2 mpg, mixed driving.
Was it the Atlas 40? Or, was it the FICM being fixed? I do not know.
Seeing what year of truck everyone above drives, posted above, I'm wondering if MPGs will be better in the early year trucks.
Reading PHP's website, it seems they say that the newer trucks wont see as much MPG improvement as the 03-04 with ECM roll backs. I wonder if it's the same with the FICM tunes.
Interesting. I can say I am unimpressed. I guess I should have went for a handheld tuner. But at this point it isn't worth the $145 minus the shipping to remove it and send it back and have my truck down for another week. Oh well, I gave it a shot.
I had the Atlas40 flashed into my FICM and I hands down am getting 2+ more miles per gallon. Truck is 100% stock tune with 4" straight exhaust. Not sure what the PCM flash is from ford but a power and milage gain I did see.
The power for me is noticeable at the upper end, on the freeway it pulls quite a bit harder from 65-85mph, can't say I notice any change at lower speeds. Have seen posts where people have much better throttle response but I don't see it for whatever reason?
I used to get high 13s on the highway and now 16-16.5 is what I see since. Have seen people who got no gain as well as people who gaines same as myself. I know tuners do play a role on how it does and have heard exhaust size also contributes???
Don't know why or how and was not counting on it but I do get better milage and I will take it
I have had it for a few thousand miles now and it's ok. It is more responsive throttle wise and drives a little more like a gasser. And I may have gained 1 mpg over all. If I was going to do it over I would go stock tune and get an SCT with customs due to the atlas 40 limiting your truck to 8k pounds or whatever it does. Good luck with it.
ok so Ill chime in as well. Im running gearhead tunes, they work great.
I have the atlas 40 tune and that works very well overstock. much more like the early oem software.
mpg gains well its not happened for me. But my truck is a bit on the heavy side.
I felt like I wasted the money on the atlas 40 from Ed after I got it done also. How many of you guys have ran loaded with the atlas 40? That's the only time I could feel the difference. Stage 2 on the edge felt like the old stage 3 (while loaded).
Also, I've been reading all this talk about mileage gains, I think I do as much as the next guy to keep the truck in good shape mechanically, but in order to see 20mpg, I've gotta keep it under 60mph. I always calculate the mileage at fill ups. I hold 153 gallons and run about 1000-1200 miles a day while working. I have a procedure to fill that gets my stock tank completely full with no foam n park on a big block to put the truck on an angle so the aux tank filler is always the highest part of the tank. My dash readout regularly reads over 23mpg, but,,,, yeah right. Since the atlas 40, n the rebuild, my dash readout is farther away from the truth. Before, it would always be 1.1-1.5 mpg off. Now it's 2.5-3 mpg off.
I have a lot of friends that do this job also,,, and a lot of them drive dodge trucks. There are so many of them that talk about getting 16mpg loaded n 27 mpg mty,,, I find myself losing respect for them cause I know they're full of crap. If I got that mileage,,, I'd b freakin rich.
I have a friend that has a crew cab dodge with the 5.9 cummins and his mileage towing the same weight trailer as mine gets worse mileage by a good 3 MPG. I get about 13.0 MPG while towing, but run about 75 with an 8,000LB trailer.

You get 13, with 8k hooked????? At 75!!!!! Is it a flatbed, with steel plates sitting flat on it? With a tailwind??
My first long trip with Atlas 40 I got 19 mpg calculated, idles better and much better throttle response. Had been getting 16-17 mpg hwy. Didn't notice a big horsepower gain, that came with the SCT and Looney. I'm happy with the Atlas 40.
I had Ed fix my FICM and added the Atlas 40 . I can honestly say I notice more off the line power ,the truck runs awesome and I took it on a 300 mile trip and got 17 mpg at 70 mph ...usually get around 15 mpg , So well worth it and have to say ED is awesome to deal with
