93 5 speed fluid type

Can someone tell me what type fluid goes in my 93 F350 five speed manual and how to check it? Thanks.

merc dex III or better, theres a fill plug on the side of it.

The ZF5 uses ATF for transmission fluid ... Yes that right, I said ATF. That is the manufactures recommended oil and warns of failure without it's use.

I prefer Mobil1 in them.

ATF is recomened, but if your leaking or pulling it all the time I would go with gear oil. 50w would be best, I use 80-90w in the current one and had one five speed that leaked bad I run 85-140w in it for two years before I got tired of crawling under it and changed it out.

DO NOT run anything but ATF in a ZF tranny.

The ZF has very very tight clearances and the use of any other oil but ATF will cause damage as oil is not getting everywhere it should go...
