I would drain till I get a steady flow of clean diesel. I'll be honest though, dating back to my 6.0 and currently this 6.4, Ive never had a drop of water come out of either of them.
Neither have I from my personal vehicles. At work, we did get a bad load of fuel once at the county shop though. It was caught by the road department trucks. The med unit(6.4L) HFCM was drained and found a little water, so the tank was dropped and cleaned. All good to go, but that was a close one.
I am going to show my total ignorance on this one. Ive had my truck for 4 1/2 years. I do not even know where the separator is. I do not know what it looks like. Could not find anything in the manual that showed it or described it. Therefore the only times it has been emptied is when the dealer has it for service, and I never remember to ask! Can someone enlighten me?

It is in the diesel supplement and on the DVD that you got when the truck was new.
Drivers side, inside the frame rail. You will see a yellow lever. turn it and fuel should come out.
Have a can or something ready.
Since you don't do yours we don't know what kind of shape it is in so be careful and don't force the lever. It is plastic and should turn easily. If not then I suggest you take it and have them fix it for you.
You can replace just the cover but sounds like you don't turn and wrenches yourself.
Just had a oil and fuel filter change and mine was gummed up again. I try to drain monthly but sometimes forget. I think it's the place I've been getting fuel at lately. Going to switch back to getting fuel where I normally do and drain monthly to see if it happens again.
Thanks, I'll see if I can find it. I pretty much quit turning wrenches a long time ago, as motors became more and more complicated, and I have never worked on diesel. I think it's called knowing your limitations! Is this a "crawl under" location or can I reach it through the wheel well?

Oh, it's a crawl under location which is just fantastic for those of us without a warm garage this time of year It's in the frame rail right under the drivers floorboard. What's worse is that even Dodge has this under the hood for easy access...way to go Ford.
It is a crawl under,drivers side on inside of frame rail just about across from drivers side door.You should see a drain hose hanging from it.Just slide the yellow lever toward the front and fuel should drain.Make sure to put a drain pan under it.

The sensor is located in the same place. You should see it right there.

Whats even worse than that is some of us that have 2 WD, and can't get between the ground and steps have to either shimmy in from either end or get the floor jack out>> in the snow of course.
