This is my Girlfriends 89 F150 with a 5.0 and auto Tranny 4x4 115k.
The truck ran great for a little while then it sucked an intake manifold gasket which I thought was a vaccum leak. So her sister was driving it and it went bang I guess then surged and died. It wouldnt start and didnt have spark at the plug(Bad wire didnt find until the end) so we replaced everything in the distributor, the plugs and wires and the fuel filter. Finally turned the distributor a little bit and it started but it had horrible spark knock before it started and it ran rough, if we turn the distributor a little bit the rough idle goes away but it wont start and it pings while on the throttle. I have tried replacing a lot of the sensors and nothing helps.
Any Ideas??? Thanks Brandon
This is a post in another section. My question is could the timming have slipped?
The balancer is right with TDC and the rotor is pointing at #1 but it will not start, turn the dist about 1/4 turn then it starts!
Ive been working on cars for 37 years, mostly old school. This has got me stumped, I suspect the valve timming is off somehow, maybe the gear teeth stripped? Like old nylon gears.
The weird thing is move the distributer 1/8 turn it runs smooth, but it will not start, move the dist to where it starts and it runs like crap.
