Hi to all. Newbe here with a question. I was driving down the interstate with cruise control set on 70 mph. in my 2006 F-250 with the 5.4L engine when all of a sudden the cruise went off and the ABS light came on. The little car that was tailgateing me amost bought me a new bumber. I reset the cruise and it works fine but the ABS light still stays on. Owners manual just says "have it serviced". What does that intail? I usually don't take my equipment to the dealer unless I am trading it in. Has anyone else have any experience with this. Thanks

Most likely, you lost an ABS sensor or a wheel tone ring.
You'll have to have the ABS codes pulled from the ABS module to pinpoint the fault area. Any decent shop scan tool should be able to do this. The really cheap scan tools won't although there are some out there for under $200 that appear to do so.
The problem most often is related to the wheel speed sensor coming off the rear axle differential. The most common issue is the build up of normal wear iron particles on the sensors surface cases it to misread or fail over time. Sometimes just pulling it out of the top of the pumpkin and wiping it off clears the issue, other times a replacement of the sensor will take care of it. Easy to do and not that expensive.
The second issue that has popped up from this circuit is over time the wiring harness to the sensor can break from fatigue from the axle's movement. Much rarer.
I got under the truck today and found the sensor on top of the pumpkin and unpluged the wire connection to remove the sensor and lot of sand came out. I plugged the connection back in and cranked up and rolled the truck down the road a little and the ABS light went out. Truck fixed. Thanks again guys.
