Power window, wiring harness??

I had a local salvage company pull a power window harness for some doors I aquired. Looks like it is just one big harness connecting power windows and locks between the two doors.. Except.. On the left side-driver side of the harness there is a blue & a black wire that were just cut really short without connectors.. Any help appreciated on this one... thanx

Perhaps those wires went to the door speaker. Black is usually ground wire. I could not find a solid Blue wire in the "door area" in my 1982 wiring diagram.
Your description sounds like you have two wires unaccounted for - or are you refering to a single wire "solid-black with a blue stripe"?

Yeah, that blue/black-stripe wire plugs into the back of the 1981+ fuse panel and a circuit breaker into the front completes the power connection:

I think there's another such connector/breaker setup for power locks but would need to look in the docs to be sure.

Power accessories like that were just add-on harnesses, there's another such setup for the rear window on Broncos IIRC.

The salvage company should have just unplugged the connectors from the fuse panel. Probably didn't know any better...

One problem though. The 1980 fuse panel does not have the circut provisions for Power windows or door locks.

Power windows and door locks started in 1981.

So you will have to improvise something to work with the 1980.

I would run it out to the battery and put a 30 amp circuit breaker out there. I have done it before, and there seemed to be no problem having power all the time to the windows and the door locks.

That was a good catch, thank you! I didn't even look at the Garage entry.

Exact color of two wires in ?

Ok, so I went to the junkyard and got the fuse box, no charge and they were very apologetic... 1st wire is all Blue with small round black dots, looks like polka dots... 2nd wire is black with a white strip that almost looks like snake skin.... Both do go to the fuse box of the 85 model.. Are they both power, and would they both need to go to the positive side of the 30amp fuse off the battery? thanx for the input, first time doing this mod....

Yes, one is for Power Windows (Light Blue/Black Dot), the other is for Power Locks (Black/White Stripe).

Since you have a 1980, you won't be able to just plug it into your 1980's fuse panel as the circuts already there will not hold up to it.

You will need a seperate circut breaker coming off the battery to run each.

20 Amp circut breaker to run the Power Window circut.
30 Amp circut breaker to run the power lock circut.

Good luck with your modification.... If you had a 1981-1986 it would be as simple as plug and play and the wiring would literally take minutes to do.
