Anyone added factory electric locks and windows to a pickup that didn't come with them?
I have an 87 F150 that didn't come from the factory with power locks and windows. I was out at the U Pull it junk yard last weekend and found an 87 F250 with 55k. It had a small carb fire, didn't look bad at all, not really sure why it was in there. It looked like you could fix a few wires and be off and running again, maybe there were other issues? Very nice interior, the best I have ever seen at the junk yard. I removed the door locks, window regulator assembly, unplugged the wire hardness that ran into the cab and pulled everything out through the door. When I got home I started looking at my pickup and the main connector on the harness I pulled from the drivers side of the JY truck seems to be on the passenger side of my pickup. It is a big 8 wire harness with a gray connector.
there is a group of wires that run from both doors across the cab near the top of the fire wall under the dash that you need from the doner truck. this group of wires also has the hook-up to the back of the fuse panel, for the windows, and locks. make sure you get the 2 - 30 amp circuit breakers from the fuse panel too. I don't know what the other hook -up your talking about does, my 89 had that too, but I had to use the harness from the doner truck because I couldn't get that one to work
If the truck didn't have power windows and locks from the factory, your truck does not have the wiring in the cab. It's a seperate harness that is mounted high on the fire wall. If you went to the wreckers for the harness, you would have to remove the entire dash to get it out.
I made up my own wire harnesses when I did mine.
The only part of the wiring that is in you truck is is the power feed for both. There is 2 single plugs around the steering column, near the firewall. One is a Black/White wire and the other is Light Blue/Black. All the wiring is done with 14 Gauge wire.
Thanks guys. Turns out my buddy was up at the same junk yard today. I asked him to check the connectors and see if he could get them out with the wiring if possible. He took the dash off and got the harness. Thanks a lot for the wire diagrams and information.
When he got the harness that goes across the the cab, there was a wire he couldn't get that is about in the center of the harness, the wire ran from the door lock harness into the main harness. Do you know what that is or where it goes?
