I have a manual steering 65 with a 289 and a c-4 with floorshift. I have a chance to buy an automatic column with a supposedly good non-leaking Bendix power steering box from a 68.
1.) Is this a direct bolt in to my 65? I know Redheads can rebuild it if need be and I won't have to hunt down a Ford box and cut the column.
2.) If the Bendix is bad does it have any value as a core?
3.) Will I be able to convert the c-4 floorshift(from a 68 Montego) to a column shift using the 68 automatic column?
Thanks in advance for your help as always. Lefty Rodan
Lefty, The column will work in your truck. Don't know about the C4, I know this about a car C6 the shift arm hangs down / at about 45 degrees while the truck arm is horizontal -, that can be problematic.
If I was thinking about adding power steering, (I was several years back) I would find a good 73-79 half ton with a 302 auto and use it as a donor for both power steering and power disc brakes. All is a direct bolt up.
