I have mounted a pair of 55 watt halogen lamps to the trailer hitch for better visability when backing while plowing.
My question here is.........I want to have them come on when I put the truck into reverse only. Can I hook them up to the trailer harness? I have the tow package and the large round receptical and I found that there is a reverse lamp pin in there.
Can I hook them up directly or should I use a relay?
I would use a relay and run a 10 gage hot from the battery all the way back to the aux lights. 110 watts is a lot of amps on the 10 or 12 gage wires that are already back there.
You should be able to locate the hot for the factory reverse lights and trigger the relay with it. But I would opt for a seperat switch also so you can use them any time.
Thanks for the replies guys.
I think I'm going to take Fredvon4's advice and add an in-cab switch. Might come in handy for those tailgaters and the "OOPS I forgot to turn off my brights" idiots.
