Redhead Steering replaces the gears and adds bearings to the input shaft where Ford installed a bushing. They are the best. There are many threads here regarding them.
I started this thread thinking it would be FTE forum that took it over and organized it. But I don't think that is how it works. So, moderators, pls advise if I am going forward in the wrong direction.
I am going forward under the assumption this is organized on a one by one basis, each member calling Redhead Steering themselves and paying for their order privately with a CC.
The only way FTE is involved is that it allows us to join together and post what days it will happen.
I called and spoke with Chris at Redhead. He said the more members who call and order, the greater the discount. If over 36 members order, we each save $60. I like that.
SO, IF YOU WANT TO SAVE $, THEN POST ON THE OTHER FORUMS WITHIN FTE SO WE CAN DRUM UP INTEREST. THE MORE INTEREST, THE MORE $ WE EACH SAVE.
February 15, 16, 17, will be the days to place your order for the discount.
Please respond to the 73-79 forum, thread w/same title, so we know how many we're dealing with. We need 36 to save $60. Thanks.
How about a link to the company? You might know them but many of us never heard of them.
Do they re-bush or machine for the pitman shaft a bearing? That's usually the part that's worn sloppy on otherwise functional Saginaw boxes of this vintage.
Red head is the top steering box rebuilders out there for these older fords atleast. They have a very good reputation from everyone I've seen deal with them. If you haven't heard of them do a search they are mentioned all over this site. They machine the box to have the bearings installed that ford didnt do from what I've learned they did this so you buy replacement parts from ford. Does your box leak even after you keep fixing it. The install of the bearing will fix your box and will last alot longer before you have to worry about seals leaking. Can it be for any ford truck to get the discount or just certain year Boxs? What if there is alot more then 36 people ordering from them do we get a even bigger discount then $60? I may be interested I've been wanting to send in my box for awhile but the price and shipping always turned me away.
I posted this on the 73-79 forum and wanted to get you opinions as well.
I'm going to order one of the Redhead rebuilt boxes for my 1970 F250 2WD. I spoke to them and they said they could update the 18:1 ratio to 15:1. This would take it from 4 turns lock to lock to 3 turns lock to lock. He asked me how tall my tires are as it's not recommended for a 4x4 with big tires, it will make the steering harder. This quick ratio increases the pump pressure so an old pump may not be able to handle it. I'm not sure if I will go this route, I like the easy steering of the truck now. But still I'm curious.
Has anyone ever installed a box with quick ratio in a Bumpside or Dentside 2wd truck?
