im just wondering what the difference is, my transfer case has a model number ending in EA, the one ive purchased ends in BA are the t-cases interchangeable?? both are borg warner 1356 t-cases, ones off an auto the other is off my truck which is a 5 speed i imagine theres a subtle difference in the gear ratio or its just identifying the tranny its mounted to
Most likely it has something to do with when it was manufactured or a lot number. The 1356 used the same gearset regardless of the transmission it was bolted behind.
The only difference that I am aware of is the change to output shaft diameter somewhere around 1989-90 when Ford changed the rear output to a flange rather than a U-joint yoke. The output shafts in the earlier models a .020" larger diameter and will not accept the flange that is employed in the newer units.
I have never found a discernible indicator either in research or on the casing as to the actual point in time when the change took place.
There are also the electronic shifter BW and the manual shifter BW models (the last one being the most desirable). Both also came in any of the trucks, regardless of the transmission, and with simiral gearings.
