Ok, I just put in my freshly rebuilt tranny with a new low gearset installed, I got it put in just fine, started it up and even drove it down the road and back. I then parked it and when I was ready to go it dident start. I turned the key and there was nothing not even a silonoid click, just silence. My electric fuel pump did turn on however. I tested the silanoid and its not the problem. The problem is between the silonoid and the ignition. I think it may be netral saftey switch on the tranny but I'm not shure. Is there a fuse someware in that system or dose it sound like its definately that swich. The parts store wants $40 for the swich so I would like to be faily shure thats it before I buy. Thanks for all the help.
Just a guess, but the 3rd wire is probably for back-up lights. Not sure which wires go to which, but I looped mine on my 73 Bronco, but that was after a new Centech harness.
Should be 4 wires, 2 for the neutral safety switch to the starter relay and 2 for the backup lights. If one is missing (hmmm), do you think that might be the problem?
However, what I would guess about the three wires is that one is positive, one goes to the ignition, and the third goes to the backup lights.
Hook a volt meter up to each and see if only one has power.
ps - $40 is not that bad for a Newtral Safety switch. The reason that I wired mine out was that I was not going to spend $200 for one. (going rate for a FMX trans NS switch)
The 2 wires to connect at the neutral safety switch will both be the same colors(s) and the same color(s) as at the starter relay.
Blue with a red stripe (I think, but I'm not sure).
WARNING! do not bypass the neutral saftey swich in these trucks, it will make many problems come up. Sorry I have not been able to respond lately, I have been working on my truck. Yes there were 4 wires, theres so much tape (not from me) its hard to see anything untill you are tareing it apart to fix it. Here is what I did. I connected the two blue wires with red stripes together and put a wire nut on and I did the same with the other pair. What resulted was YES I could start my truck BUT all kinds of crazy stuff happened. first my seatbelt light would come on and off periodicaly, second my headlights were very dim and flickered irregularly, and third, after about 2 minutes of driveing my temp guage would go all the way hot. I spent the $40 and put in the swich and everything was fine. I had no idea those many things could somehow be tied into that system. It was strange.
