not to mention they used them in ups trucks for awhile just my opinion but a ups truck would seem to have terrible aerodynamics and would also be fairly heavy

They were also slower than just about anything ever made, and the only reason they came with the 300-6 is because they were cheap, and marginally better on fuel then a V8.

I personally knew someone with a UPS-Style Grumman aluminum body step-van with a 300-6. It could barely do 55 on a level road completely unloaded.

if they could barely do 55 i'm pretty sure they wouldnt have been in the trucks more than a year which they were. also ask him what gears it had i wonder why it would suck with the wrong gears (hint overrevved)

It all boils down to rotating weight/mass ...

SBF's simply do not have the rotating weight/mass it takes to make a tow motor ... However that is also what makes them fun on the street and fast at the strip!
They are quick revving.

The i6 has the rotating weight/mass, thus makes a good tow motor, but they are boring on the street and suck at the strip!

However, I have had the pleasure of a N/A i6 that put most sb's (all mfg's) to shame at the track ... But that was a long long time ago, things are different today with all the modern high tech electronics and crap.

-Enjoy

How did we get to a 400? I offer simple input that a larger motor is better for towing and that they are cheaper to make towing motors, and you come back not even defending the 300, but instead saying the 351 sucks compared to a 400. No S#!T a 400 is more powerful. If you don't have any facts to post and can't take honest opinions do us a favor and find another forum. Stop being a keyboard jockey. Your not impressing any of us here. Here's another bit of advice, don't go around saying you'll beat anyone's truck using a truck that does NOT belong to you...

Wow....Just..wow

My truck is a mundane, 300/5 speed/3.08 truck.

In short, it gets the job done and is reliable. Period.

I plan on doing some work to it, along with a gear change. But if you think, stock for stock, a 4.9l is gonna beat a 5.0/5.8.. Buddy, I want some of what you're smoking.

A 300 runs out of breath at the same rpm a 302 is just catching its breath to run. And a 351 simply combines both.

As for your "hauling"...My largest load was a 1976 dodge 1 ton dually gasser, on a 16' bed and I rolled across the scales at 11,360 gvw...that is GROSSLY over weight. Period.

Going up the hills, it would BARELY muster 30-45mph..In 2/3rdgear, fuel pedal flat on the floor.

The engine was made in the 1950's when the average speed limit on the interstate was 50-55, not 70 like today.

I honestly think you're a child with 0 idea of what hp/tq truly mean, and are trying to troll the hell out of us.

i never said the 4.9 will beat a 5.0/ 5.8. i take that back i have done side to side towing "experiments" with my grandpa and his 5.0 compared to my 4.9 with very simarly weighted loades and the 4.9 out pulled it by a long shot as for the 5.8 i dont know as for both of them having more hp and being faster on the street thats just obvious that the two would be faster than a six cylinder... i would hope

the way u worded it gave me the wrong impression. just because i said its my grandpas means jack. it practically belongs to me. i my family the youger ones own the stuff but the older ones use it or live in it. (example my mom truly owns my grandmas house but she doesn't live in it) so i just say that it is my grandpa's truck because he is the one that uses it all the time
