My 97 F250 ld with a 5.4 is not wanting to go when in gear...in park it revs fine....with it floored it rumbles and only gets to bout 30 mph...any ideas...if you could tell me how hard it would be to fix...im thinking its the throttle sensor but idk for sure...thx
The first thing to do is scan for codes present.
No guessing or tying to out think the situation or you just spend money and effort without results.
What does it do in reverse?
What does it do in first gear selection?
It may be the thransmission.
Is the fluid level up and not smell burnt?
A starting point has to be found as the basis for action.
Good luck.
cylinder 3 misfire, coil connection(replaced all that but light still on) Does it in everything but park & neutral, fluid full no smokey smell, im also thinking an injector could be clogged cause of the engine light cause i gave it a full tune up with factory plugs and coil boots...even got a coil and still missed...it did this with the miss but before once it got warmed up it would go....usually after driving bout a block it would drive fine more or less...
misfire on cylinder 3, coil connection error i dont remember the codes but thats what they translate to...i think it might have a p905 and a p960 but not 100% sure...im using a basic scanner...
Either you have a code or you dont. so just list them...............I also have a good idea what your problem is too. but tell us codes.....no maybe's.....
well i dont have them anymore cause i borrowed the programmer but iv translated the codes already...but if u could tell me ur idea i would appreciate it...
understand them?? im in school to be a mechanic...it aint that hard to look on an all data and translate a code....so unless the the all data is wrong i think i got it covered...
I'm not trying to be smart but if you have things covered why are you here asking?
The code discriptions are only the 'first layer' of understanding what they mean. I sincerely hope your school will bring that point accross.
You don't go to a doctor and expect him or her to tell you what's wrong based only on what you tell him you think is the problem.
We also are not going to do a diagnostic on what you think, either.
There are a few people here who have gone through factory schools and have years of experience on Ford vehichles.
Accurate information exchange is the best way we can help in a remote setting such as this.
Good luck.
i understand that im not saying the codes r perfect explanations, and im not saying ik everything i was simply pointing out that i do understand codes and that im not ignorant and i apologize if i cant get my truck back to school to code read it again...im just trying to see if their is something iv missed...iv looked it over it several times iv changed everything i know to change and im lost...iv only got a year of experience and 1/4 of my schooling im in a diagnostics class now but my teacher wont tell me because he said it wasnt his place to tell me but to teach me...and i cant take it to the parts store either...its kinda stuck at my house...im not asking for an exact answer just an idea based on wat its doing...with an idea i can test it and maybe realize wat im doin wrong...front end and drive line is my main focus but i do do this as well just not as much...i mean i can rebuild the under belly of almost any car even had to put a new frame under an audi once...but goin beyond the basic motor components is where i have alot to learn.
Very interesting that you instructor sort of sees the situation about the same.
The bottom line is we would all be guessing.
On these present day systems of computer control, there is no guessing.
The software has been designed with diagnostic ablity, only limited by the designer, to be used for trouble shooting otherwise your left outside the system with no way to address the problems.
This is the basis for how it should be done in any shop as long as the owner will allow a tech to do it that way and not throw parts costing the owner a lot of money just for guessing.
Since you reply with your personal positions in defense; I for one, am not making any personal attecks on you but only trying to get you on the right track to solving your issues.
I'm sorry it's not more convienent for you to get codes and cover distances involved.
Good luck.
