One more thing Matt, i can still get 16 mpg on the hyway if i baby it.I believe anything you can do to let your engine work easier is going to help mileage. The 5.4 superdutys are a good example. The mileage with a 5.4 is not much better than a V10 because you have to work it a little harder to accomplish the same thing.
Geeezzzzzzzzzzzz, now _I_ want a new TB too! Let's see:
- open up air filter (check, FIPK)
- SCMT (check)
- dual exhaust (check, couple weeks ago, just from cat-back)
- larger TB (MIA!)
Man, you guys! My wife is gonna kill me. I already have eaten into my presents for the next 3 Christmases! LOL
Matt, let us know how you like it and how it performs. I already
know what Daryl would tell me to do (buy the darn thing already)! Speaking of Daryl, how long does it take to replace the TB? Any weird gotchas to be worried about here? Thx.
Did mine in 20 mins, 1/2 hr max. Didn`t have any problems. This morning I went to have my cab lights installed and went to pass a bluehair and the spacer for the throttle cable flew off. Some dummy forgot to put the wire tie on Me. But other than that, no problems
edelbrock make a 62 mm i think, accufab makes a nice single blade throttle body that i think does need trimming of the intake.
another thing dont put an air-aid type spacer in there because all it will do is choke everything back down.
I installed it tonight just before it started raining. My throttle cable is too long now so the go pedal is closer to the floor (and loose). I need to find a way to adjust the cable. Also, it seems to stick a little from a stop. This makes it hard to take off in the rain but I think it might be related to the cable being too long.
The "cam" that the cable wraps around is smaller than the original (thus the cable is too long) so it looks like I will have less pedal travel when everything is tightened up.
The biggest problem I had was getting the Throttle Position Sensor off the old TB. I couldn't break one of the screws loose with an impact screwdriver. I finally ground it off with the dremel.
It was a post several months back about the cam. I believe you have to use the one from the old throttle body. Maybe Daryl, V10KLZZ71S, can help you out.
I drove his truck, and it is quick. Now I want a new TB.
So when are you doing the sonnax valve and tricumalator springs?
I remember the post, but the cam seems to be swedged onto both TB's. I think I will find a small cable clamp (collar and set screws) and shorten the cable at the pedal.
My brother and I both think it feels stronger throughout the rpm range. We had more trouble than usual keeping the tires from spinning in the rain.... even up to the 35-40 mph range if you really got on it.
Man, i'm not quite sure why you had problems, mine bolted right up,no cable issues. The bbk spring is stiffer than stock so it takes more pressure to press the pedal. My wife hates it because it snaps her neck when she takes off,but she is used to her wuss Tahoe which we will be trading in on a 04 150.
I fixed it. I took up the slack in the cable at the go pedal by slipping a 1 inch long roll pin over the cable and securing it with two zip ties. I adjusted the idle like the directions said and it is a lot smoother taking off now. I had it so that the idle adjustment screw was not touching anything. Now it is adjusted so that it is one full turn past a .01" gap. Works great.
