I went to take some metal I had laying around to the scrap metal place today. Pull up, get out with the truck with it runnin, and start to remove the metal. The guy in the crane with the big magnet on it gets my attention and says he will get it out. So he takes the big magnet and sticks it in the bed of the truck and gets all the metal out. I get in the truck, drive about 50 yards, weigh, turn off the truck and go in to get paid. Get back in the truck and drive off. About half a mile away I notice the A/C is never got cold. Coincidence? or did the big magnet have something to do with it????????
Check the two wire connection on the top of the A/C compressor. They have a tendency to get loose over time and then they work intermittently. It can be that, you may need to remove a shim from the clutch, or it may have a small leak and is now low on pressure.
Ok, so a dumb question. There is a plug in the front and plug in the back of the compressor. I would assume I would want to jump into the front plug and I would assume the black wire is the ground and the colored is the power?
I'm not sure if its the front or the back you jump. But, with the ac on and truck running, push the back plug to each side and see if the ac clutch kicks on. Zip tie it in that direction, worked for me for several years until I finally put a new hi-low switch on.
The plug in the back is a pressure switch. The one in the front is the power for the clutch. If you jump one, jump the back one. You have to have power on the front one to engage the clutch. One side is battery voltage the other is ground.
OK, there is power going to the pressure switch when it is supposed to and I jumped the clutch on the compressor. It works and the air blows cold. So no power going to the clutch. I checked all the fuses and they are all good. So what is the culprit here? Rotary switch on the dash??????? What sends power to the clutch? I thought it was the pressure switch? The only thing I did not do was cut the wires to the plug on the clutch to verify the connector was good or bad. Meter is telling me there is no power to it though. Opinions.
The plug at the clutch is only getting 9 volts. I bypassed the plug and and tried it and it still will not engage the compressor. But jumping it to the battery will and I have cold air. Pressure switch? Just the connector at the pressure switch? What sends the voltage to the clutch?
Pressure on the system is good and the switch was bad. The good news is that switch is on a shraeder valve so when its is replaced you don't lose pressure on the system! All is good now. THANKS for all the help!
