lift options/questions

I have an 02 4x4 v10 excursion in red that im thinking of lifting and putting larger tires on, mainly for cosmetic reasons and occasional light off road. I also dont want to lose any towing capability, I have a 8000lb smoker trailer I pull to tailgates.

Im looking for the best bang for the buck but still quality. I also dont want to change gears or anything extra like that (i heard you need to over a certain size tire). I have some wandering issues and I heard springs are the best thing to replace (or when you get a lift do you always get new springs too? ive never had a truck only small cars).

I was thinking of possibly a ~6 inch lift. Anything I should know or suggestions/ideas? Also if anyone has a red excursion lifted please post pictures

Also, would the stock rims look dumb on bigger tires (33-35 inch) because if not that would be a nice way to save a good chunk of change

Thanks in advance, im so happy to finally have a excursion!

If you're concerned about $, I think the higher you go, the more you'll spend (new shocks, pitman arm, track bar, 35" tires, etc.). I'd like to do v-codes w/ add-a-leaf in the rear like this:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...uspension.html

and hopefully squeeze 285/75/17's (33.5" x 11.5") on new wheels in there.

And end result would look more proportionate and appropriate in my opinion.

He said in that forum that it wont work well with towing, which I do.

Also, is that cost difference between lifting two inches with those tires you mentioned be that much compared to a 4-6inch lift with 35s? Id have to buy a lift, tires, and wheels for both.

I think you should contact Cary @ ctperformanceinc.com, and have him send you an email about his research on V and modded B code springs. I was impressed and will go with his recommendations when save up a few dollars.

I did Cary's B code mod and used X code springs up front along with WE3ZS's idea of the B code overload leaf up front as an add-a-leaf, couldnt be happier. Very stable, rides great, nice height measures 41" to all 4 fenders and running 305/75/16. Worth the $ for the Ford superduty springs.

I went with icon's 5" lift because of all the great reviews it had on this forum. Their system comes with all new springs instead of blocks for the rear and they use 11 thinner leafs instead of 4 or 5 thicker leafs for a more smoother ride plus all parts have a lifetime warranty. One thing to remember the excursions are 2" lower than the f250s so when your looking a lot of these companies say its 6" of lift but in reality it's 4" for the excursions because they use the same springs.

Wouldn't it be 8" of lift since the Ex starts out two inches lower?

It just depends what company and how they list it so most of the time a 4" for a superduty is 2" for the excursion, 6" for the super duty is a 4" for the x and 8" for the super is a 6" for the x and so on... So I'm just saying make sure you read everything before you buy.

So i just did some cursory looking, and on Icon Vehicle Dynamics Lift Kits for Ford Super Duty and Excursion Vehicles From Wheeler's Off-Road the icon 5inch lift is almost 2 grand plus another grand for springs ect.
I thought it would be a third of that. Am I missing something? or would a 6 inch lift cost that much?

On thursday I am getting a PRO COMP 6" $1325 with 37" inch BFG all terrain tires $1600, on stock 17" inch rims $0, includes upgraded shocks, mount balance,alignment$100, speedo calibration module$250, labor tax misc fees... $4400 out the door.... and it is a new 2012 F250 and 4wheelparts will cover any warranty issues that ford won't , due to the lift. new bigger rims would have been like $1300 more minimum.

The icon 4" lift would have been $2750 ( think you pay for the name) on 35" tires was quoted as $5400 out the door....

I don't tow really ever.... but still could.... just not super heavy stuff

can do 6x10 trailer for mulch or 2 ATV"s stuff like that....

In my opinion if you are going for looks... you don't need an icon... if you go to a 4 wheeler park you just might...

Id like to keep the stock rims to cut back on money (if it would look decent) and spend no where near 3k. I realize that just may be impossible. Its mainly for looks but I do tow things including my almost 9000lb trailer

well tires are gonna be $1000 minimum. there are some $900 ish lift kits ( rough country??) do it yourself, but immediately get an allignment so you don't eat your new tires extremely quickly or save up some more and get what you really want

Just for future reference as folks browse these threads looking for onfo.
You have this backwards, the EX starts out 2" lower than a SuperDuty so any lift rated as 4" for a SD will be 6" on an EX and so on....... A lift marketed for the pickups will be 2" more on an EX. The EX came with softer lower springs to keep soccer moms happy, thats why when so many of us have swapped out the factory springs for SD ones we get about 2" of lift along with the better ride.
