Have a '92 F150 and the pass. side of the dash is loose. Have taken the glove box out and tried to see if the is a missing bolt and cant see anything. A friend of mine has a '93 and he has the same problem and can't find it either. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so how do you fix it? Any advise is appreciated! CS
How'd you figure out it was loose? My '95 has a rattle at about 60 mph that I can't figure out where it's coming from except to say it's on the passenger side...
I figured it to be loose at first because I can see it bouncing about an inch or maybe a little less as I hit bumps, etc. then I shook it and found that it was loose.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Aug-02 AT 12:03 PM (EST)]Thanks. guess I'll go shake mine and see what happens... needs a cleaning in there anyways. Somehow I never suspected the dash of being loose...
My 93 F250 does the same thing. What I found is there is a plastic support that runs the entire length of the bottom of the dash. On the right side, between the dash and plastic trim panel, it attaches to the metal with 1 bolt. I forget if you need to take the trim panel off to get to it. The plastic support was cracked, letting the entire right side move up and down. You can epoxy it and it will work for a while, or replace it. I have glued mine and it needs it again.
My 92 had the same thing happen. I believe there was a fix from the dealer that was mentioned in a TSB. Instead of going to the dealer, I took the support bolt on the right side off and bent and drilled a 1" wide piece of flat stock so that one end would bolt to the support bolt and the other would bolt up to a bolt that holds the dash plastic to the under side of the dash structure. This bolt if I remember correctly was just under the right side hinge of the glovebox.
I had the same problem with my '93, right side of the dash shaking, because of that plastic tab being broke. I superglued it, and then put a long sheet metal screw through the inner plastic dash frame, into the metal alongside where the original tab was mounted. solid as a rock.
