Starting problem

I'll try to explain this as best I can. I went out to start the truck today and it did nothing, like it would if both batteries were completely dead. But I noticed that the glow plug controller was clicking just fine and the battery guage said OK. So I poped the hood thinking that the starter must be bad but Daddy comes out and goes to the passenger side under the hood takes a hammer and crosses two bolts coming out of a module there and it starts right up! I didn't know he knew how to do that! So sometime this weekend I'm going to take that little thing off and look at it and see if I can't figure out what's wrong with it. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what you did to fix it? I don't want to mess anything up when I take it apart. I would guess this thing would be an ignition switch? I didn't look real close at it. It has a couple wires running to it and it bolted on with two bolts. It's real small, about the size of a fuel filter I guess. Any thoughts?
