I recently painted the grille inserts for my '76. They didn't turn out too bad. I used the rattle-can paint from Krylon that is a metallic silver for painting wheels. That's the closest I could find to argent without having the NAPA store mix up a whole quart. I found out the trick to making it look decent was to hold the can about twice as far from what you're painting than you would with normal paint. It makes the metal flake lay better.
Good luck with your project. I'd love to have a flareside in my stable, but they are very hard to find in my area. I only know of two, and they are both so beat up that I don't think they would even be worth trying to fix.
ill give the paint a shot before i buy a new grille
it was warm tonight so i decided to take down the sagging head liner. i found a nest in there and poop went everywhere and it made a mess. i got the shop vac out and cleaned everything up. also 2 bees nests in the passenger door jam!
theres quite some rust on the roof (mostly drivers side front corner) and i think i want to fix that before i get a new headliner. im thinking an american flag or eagle would look pretty cool up there.
the glove box is made out of some type of paper fiber and its shot
You could do a couple of things about the rust if it's just surface rust. Get a rag and wet it with white vinegar or buy some Ospho. White vinegar is a lot cheaper. Either one will turn the iron oxide (rust) to iron phosphate and neutralize it. Then you could hit it with some primer to seal it if you want.
Dennis Carpenter sells new glove box liners. I think they're about $15.
that grill looks really good! i might try it out when it gets warmer
voca texas ive got some vinegar so ill give that a shot. ill have to take a closer look and see if its rusted through or not.
i do weld, and im going to school for it, itll become my trade. i think the old tailgate can be fixed up and still look decent. they're made very simply and it wouldnt be hard to make one. thanks for those pics!
i think i am going to build a tailgate as a school project. steel frame like the old but wooden boards instead of sheet metal. i cant find any round tubing that fits the hinges, though
put all new spark plugs, looks like the old ones have been in for a while
noticed i had a leaky radiator and decided to get a new one, top and bottom hoses, stainless tranny cooler lines, 14,400 BTU tranny cooler, heater hoses, water pump, and plastic glove box liner from bronco graveyard
