I have a 1948 t0 50 model 1.25 ton truck I am wanting to build.
It is currently completely stock original with the original drive line 6cyl eng, tranny and dual wheel rear.
Right now what I have for the build is a 1967 chrysler 300 with a 440 ci engine and 727 transmission. I was intending on cutting the frames on both vehicles near the fire walls and then swapping the chrysler stuff over to the F-5.
The 440 chrysler engine is the high performance T N T 375 hp with a 4 bbl. I have purchased a 6 pack ( three two bbl holleys) and intake for the 440 engine which should bump the hp to nearly 400 hp.
However the only reason I am using the mopar is because it came real cheap and there just is not much High performance Ford stuff in my area.
I would rather keep the old F-5 all Ford if possible and have started thinking about finding an old lincolm continental with a 460 ci engine and doing basically the same thing. Cut the Lincoln frame and marry it to the
f-5 frame.
Has any one on here done a build like this or anything close to what I am about to try.
Also is there any one on here that may have a Lincoln (1973 preferably) with some high performance engine parts ( three duces or two 4`s) that would be interested in trading for my chrysler parts?
Welcome ky509! I've never done the type of build you're talking about but I do have a 460 currently in a 77 F350 Camper Special that I'm parting out. Where are you located? You might consider updating your profile to include the location you're in so others in your area can help out if needed. Let me be the first to request you post some pics of your truck to see what you're working on.
Unless your planning to build a rat rod, I see a LOT of problems trying to marry the Chrysler frame with the F5 frame. Also, you will find the F5 front end (dog house) too narrow for the Chrysler components.
