New member and have seen some interesting posts as an observer. I own a 71 F100, have a dash bezel in my truck, not the original as I have that in my shed.
But it is a ranger XLT bezel with the woodgrain finish with black and chrome. Not the dark brown weird looking woodgrain, mine has a light oak woodgrain finish.
It has seen better days and I would like to replace, as lots of places remake them, but never seen one like it yet.
1970/72 Ranger XLT's have wood grained: instrument cluster bezels, inserts in the door trim panels, inserts in the 3 5/8" wide upper side mouldings, tailgate finish panel and horn pad.
Glovebox door may be wood grained, cannot recall.
1970 instrument cluster bezel is 1970 only (as are its printed circuit boards). 1971 is one year only before serial number L80,001. From serial number L80,001, 1971 is the same as 1972. Printed circuits same 1971/72.
There are two types of clusters (and printed circuits): With or without Oil/Amp gauges. There will be ID numbers on the printed circuit boards, post what they are.
I bought a 1971 Ranger XLT new, I think (truck sold 1979) that it had a walnut wood grained cluster bezel.
Instrument PanelsABOVE: This is an example of standard instrumentation for the 1967-1969 Ford and Mercury models and included a steel surround (bezel). 1967 bezels were trimmed in white and '68-'69 versions (shown here) were trimmed in silver. UPPER RIGHT: Ford's full instrumentation package also included gauges in the lower two pods instead of just idiot lights and were standard on the Custom Cab and Ranger. The chrome-plated plastic versions were offered from '67-'69 on the Custom Cab and Ranger as well as on all '70-'72 models. LOWER RIGHT: The woodgrain cluster was introduced in '69 on the Ranger and was used for '70-'72 XLTs, which also had lower woodgrain panels and a plastic woodgrain 'modesty' panel below the RH side of the dash. The '70-'72 non-XLT Ranger had no woodgrain accents. The '70-'72 woodgrain was also darker than the '69s.
Note: '67-'70 speedometers had a red line above the 70MPH thru 100MPH markers (see top photo). '71-'72 speedometers did not have this
thanks for the help ,as the last picture posted looks like my dash only again i have a diferent woodgrain will try to post pictures and get numbers off instrument panel but not sure if they went together originally or not .ill check later and get back to you thanks again as its been almost twenty five years since i put this togethernot sure what i did back thenthe instrument cluster and circuit board i believe are original to my truck as the date on it is correctpart #d1tf10c956aa,however when idid my trucki had three donor trucks as illinois is not so kind to these so i think i picked what i liked wasnt to worried about original appearance.so i probably mixed my guages with a different bezel.has matching trim where ignition and wipers and stuff goes.my wife tried to load pics ,two hours lter no goodmay try tomorrow .thanks again
I have one that is the steel and white from a 1967 F250. The factory body paint is Whimbledon White. I'll get a photo and see if it matches that or is a different white.
Here is another 1967 F250 dash bezel from a different truck. It is from a Ranger edition and so is plastic and chromed. I'm trying to figure out where I can get this plastic rechromed and the black repainted. I'm sure it a special process, just need to find out where.
Honestly your bezel doesn't look bad at all nice truck btw. My truck is a Pebble Beige (6) and I was thinking that the white of the bezel might have been Wimbledon White.
^^ What he said. I'd be happy to have that bezel in my truck. If you do figure out repainting and chroming let us know, but I'll probably be buying a reproduction eventually.
Ok, I looked at the steel one and it appears to be Whimbledon White. Compared it to several different places. The factory paint code for this truck is the same as that. And the rest of the interior is the same.
