So I did the 3g alt swap a week ago or so, and it finally stopped raining long enough to go take out the unused wires. Well went okay but taking things out or apart is almost always easier than install or rebuild.
I started with the three old alternator connectors and worked my way back towards the plug for the VR. In my travels I found some wires still connected. One to the starter soleniod ( heavyer gage) and a plug that says M5518. The plug has three wires to it that goes back toward the firewall.
I then. confused came back inside and looked on FTE and saw a thread with pictures and he took that all out. The plug and the rest of the wireing harness. So I did to. Well got everythong back together. No power, No dome light, head lights nothing. Key on, still nothing.
I taped the old wires together and hooked the one back to start soleniod and pluged the plug back up. Wahlaa power like it should.
Okay now my questions, Why? Is it the instrument light I read somewhere? Is there a way to remove all that wire and rewire whatever needs to obviously be there? And if so how do I do it correctly.
For the record 1978 F150 L6 300 2wd C4. As always Thank you all for helping.

Thank You Hio. That is exactly what I needed. Hopefully I can splice it together tomorrow. Thanks again.
You're welcome.
When I unwrapped that harness, I found a super-long length that was folded over itself and then wrapped with tape at the factory... that's why it is labeled "soldered connection" (near top of bottom pic) cuz that is where I excised about two feet of extra wire.
The large black wire with a yellow trace (Bk/y) feeds the power to the cab including the ignition switch.
