Sorry the vid is upside down vidbam did that on me.
Two days ago it was 17f and I was in the truck and tried to start it. It normally turns over instantly, all the time. It Didnt, it sputtered and hesitated and then turned over and basically smoked out my whole neighborhood (10x worse then in the video). Yesterday it was 21f and started a little better but still a lot of smoke. Today I did a remote start and it was about 24f and as you can see, still smoked, high idle, and there was this weird noise coming from under the driver door. Please advise...
that's normal for just about any ICE gas or diesel.with such low temps, they're bound the smoke some white until them cylinders heat up a bit.
just start up a little car or watch your neighbors tomorrow.you'll see theirs doing the same thing in this cold weather.
with the aid of your glow plugs, you'll probably notice your white smoke goes away even faster than your neighbors gas cars.
My truck normally smokes a LITTLE in cold cold weather, but this is a LOT of smoke, no? I mean I could say I covered the whole neighborhood in thick smoke the other day.
In the video, it doesn't look too bad, but the temperatures you mention dont sound cold enough to really bother your truck. Should start fine, mine starts normally at 5F without the heater. Do you / the starter allow the glow plugs to cycle for a few seconds before fully turning the key? Maybe you shut down in the middle of a regen and it just cooked off a bunch of diesel...
Other meteorological conditions besides temps affect the smoke or steam cloud coming from your exhaust pipe. Hopefully it was more vapor than fuel, but true white clouds can be a bad thing.
