I believe it, I went from NH to lower AL, over 1600mi. on just about 80 gal. Filled up a total of 3x (30gal tank), 1x before leaving, and 2x on the road, and arrived there with about 1/2 tank. So total fuel used was 2 1/2 tanks. Which would equal about 20mpg. All at 70-80mph and loaded down with family of 4 and stuff for 2 weeks vacation. This was in a 2000 Expedition 5.4 4x4 with 254,000mi. To this day I avg 17mpg mostly city. Get on a long trip and its right about 21 mpg hwy. This is according to my OHD AND my Edge evolution CS set to lvl 2 Now has 258,8** miles. So I can see it happening in a p/u with 4.6l.
If it is a lot of flat land and driven under 70, yeah it could happen. My old 01 5.4L 4x4 got 18 on trip with 4 adults and some gear in the bed running 75mph on some not so flat interstate. It was and OFFROAD Supercab with 3.55 gears with 265/70R17 tires.
well i did a little more checking into his he never did check it the rite way he said that he went 350 mi & still had 1/4 of a tank left & that he had a 20 gal tank so he thought he used 15 gal but i dont think none of that is rite i think he has a 22gal & that when he is 1/4 that he only has about 3 gal left which would make it 19 gal for 350 =about 18 mpg which is still pretty good for a 4x4
As they say, 'dat moe beter'.
23 gallon tank with about 2 gallon left when the light comes on.
This guy will tell you he caught a 24 inch fish in a small mud hole after it rains.
That has a 25 gallon tank. Straight from the 1999 owners manual. (unless it was a SuperCab Long Bed 157" WB truck like mine, which would have a 30 gallon tank)
So his "estimate" is even further off.
At sustained interstate speeds I get 17/18 mpg with the P/U (RWD) in my sig.
In order to do that correctly, you need to measure the amount of fuel used (at fill up) versus miles traveled since the previous fill up averaged over multiple tanks. You cannot get a reasonable estimate off one tank, let alone part of one tank.
