350 or 500 CFM for stock 360

I did a search and I'v come up with conflicting answers. Im going to get a Holley 2300, and I cant figure out if I need the 350 or 500 CFM version. My 360 is completly stock.

i think the stock 2-barrel would have been way closer to 350 than 500.

scroll all the way to the bottom:
Classic Inlines Autolite Carb's
it'll show you the CFM ratings.

granted, by '75 it would have been Motorcraft instead of Autolite, but i think the reference is still good.

I have run up to a 4BBL 650 Holley with no issues on a stock 360 shouldn't be a big problem i would recommend the 500 if you wanna stay 2BBL

If NASCAR engines can run with a 390cfm carb your stock 360 should do just fine with a 350cfm carb.

I had just read that a few days ago. From searching the forum alot, it looks like most people over carb their engine. I think I would rather start small and move up from there if need be.

X2

Bigger isn't always better and that applies to carbs too, but if a guy wants a Holley 850 double pumper on his stock 390 more power to him.

The only thing I would warn about on the 500 holley is the accelarator pump. Im running a 4412 (I believe those are the numbers) on my truck with a 352 overbored 30. I run a set of flowtech headers into a 2.50 pipes. The carb has a 1" spacer under it. All that being said...... when the gas pedal is pushed hard I get just a bit to much fuel and motor bogs a little. Its really bad when the cold blooded FE is cold. Im going to go to a 4 barrel manifold and a holley 600 cfm carb in the near future so I havent looked into changing the jet on the accelerator pump. I have read that it can be done. Just what Ive experinced with a holley 500. Other wise it is a great carb.

question- what would be the way to diagnose that as too much fuel, as opposed to too little? normally you hear that a bog on hard acceleration is a lean condition.

By the time those "390CFM" holley's make it onto a NASCAR engine, there isn't much that hasn't been changed or modified from factory.
Besides, they now use EFI.

Yeah and I can run a 50cfm on a diesel too..Doesnt mean it runs any better !

Nascar can get away with it with Ports and cam ! NO in the way via intake ,valves or head ports... Give me a freakin break..My Cub Cadet has 180cfm for a 22hp Vtwin..

My carb probably came with a 50cc pump. I have read that they can be changed to a 30 cc. I have not changed it so it is more than likely still using the 50cc. If I easy the gas pedal down so the motor doesnt get the whole shot it runs up just fine slap the pedal down and give it the full squirt momentary loss of power or a bog as I call it. When I say easy it down im not talking about pressing in slow motion just not slaping it to the firewall. Thats how I can tell that it more than likely is to much fuel.

i'm not picking or anything- but that sounds exactly like too small of a pump shot.
if you look in the rearview- are you getting a puff of black smoke?
