I have 92 f150 4x4 351w e4od . Transmission went out on me. I can get my hands on some transmissions out of some newer trucks 96 and 98. Will these match up to my wiring harness ? Can I splice theme ? Will a e4od out a 2wd with a straight six work? Or can anyone tell me what will and will not interchange? Thanks.
If those "newer" trucks have 4.9/5.0/5.8L engines and they are 4x4 then the transmission will fit yours. But anything 1995 and newer you will have to put the existing solenoid block from your old transmission onto the new transmission. Ford changed some of the circuitry.
You cannot simply swap in a 2wd version. The output shafts are different.
Define "went out". This transmission is completely computer controlled and all kinds of apparent problems like false neutrals, refusal to up or downshift, and banging shifts are directly related to sensor problems, so if you haven't pulled the codes yet that should be done before you potentially waste a whole bunch of time and money replacing a perfectly good transmission.

When I would have to hold my foot on the brake the transmission would start roaring . And its my work vehicle ,so Im replacing it. Does anyone know what the large numbers on the casing mean? My old trans has a 38 and my newish one has a 35.

Tore tranny down ended up being low/reverse clutch. Came apart. Stop and go traffic killed it.
